really like the buttons and style of the red ford site and the fixed width, the only thing I don't like is the  COLOUR;)

I like it wider with the smiles togggle and stuff easily accessible. Perhaps you could keep the default wider but some of the others in narrower format for themwho like it?

I never did see why anyone would want a 2" blank screen as a border to each side.

You must remember some people haven't because your eyesight is good and you have a monitor over 15" you are luck others are not so ..

HTML standards recognise 800 x 600 as the standard and that is why a majority of sites are written to conform to that.

i wanted to vote for

This way where the site is wider and changes with screen

but i clicked on null vote

anyway, if some people prefer the thinner version, can't they just alter the size of their internet browser (by clicking and dragging the corners)? because it does automatically resize you know!

But what happens with those running on 800 x 600 or yet 640 x 480 resolution ???

it does not matter which way you drag it on this version it will cover at least 98% of the screen as that is now what it is set to do...

Personally I changed my skin to silver blue at the bottom of this screen and it is IMHO far better

It is not for me to stand in the way of progress but I do have an opinion which some others may share.

I joined the site because I bought an ageing Gal, to be joined by a second shortly afterwards, and was impressed by the standard of response I got from the regular devotees such as Seatkid, Johnb80 Masked Marauder and many others, all of whom gave good technical advice.

If I were looking for improvements, it would be in ease of use and speed of response. More power helps stop the deterioration of the latter but I cannot see how making it necessary to trawl through at least two extra tiers of options helps either.

I am only interested in Technical and General discussion topics and, personally, can see no reason why these should not sit side by side at the first level, along with a small no of other options for what is becoming a maze of assorted non motoring topics for people with far more time on their hands than I have. Also, the range of topics is now so large that, in many cases there is too much choice as to where to put anything.

Sadly, I have to say that on my occasional visits I seem to see lots of well intended but not always very helpful comments and many serious queries go unanswered. Perhaps this is evolution, but that happens for a reason.

I do appreciate the difficulty of maitaining this site and I, for one, have been and remain grateful for your efforts and if any of the above seems to be a critisism, then I apologise.

Ron.

Latest figures show that 80% of internet users use 1024x768 or higher as their screen resolution. Obviously not all have their browser window maximised, but the majority will. I usually design sites around 1024x768 resolution but work them on percentages, and always test it at 800x600 to make sure it is still easily useable.

Incidentally, 75% of web users are running Windows XP which comes with a default screen resolution of 1024x768 providing the graphics card can support it.

That maybe so, but at the end of the day sites should be designed to be viewed by all, percentages are great for some things but not for others.

And as websites have to validate more to get a good search engine ranking, it is harder to bodge up pages with DHTML or Javascript

I think Glen dopes an excellent job with this site.

The layout is clear and concise and not littered with the usual rubbish you see on many websites.

I would much rather have this simple easy to follow layout than something bright and jazzy that doesn't do what it is supposed to.

The purpose of this site is to relate information.it does this well.

Lay of the guy he does a great job !

I am not sure if I'm halucinating or just overtired but this now looks as when I first logged on about 18 months ago.

I have no idea what you've done or why but I am pleased to see Galaxy Technical back at the top of the list.

I haven't even noticed anything else that has been going on because it doesn't interest me at all but that bit is great!

Thanks Glen.

I change the layout to save costs on bandwidth the more forums there are on th index the bigger the download, the exercise did save quite a bit of bandwidth but a lot of you didnt appreciate the new layout so I put it back to the old way

you could probably include the regional section and mini forum on other models as sections within the second section - without too much uproar and they woulkd be reasonably appropriate there too

would putting the games in the arcade in categories also save some bandwidth since it would not have to load the whole page when viewing arcade home?

Next job to do lol, as well as add the welcome page, as well as redesign 7 sites for work, as well as design new thermostat control units (although I like the features in my last design),

whinge over

Just not enough hours in the day
